Worth Knowing
- Incorporated August 1, 1973; population grew from about 100 residents at incorporation to 1,388 at the 2020 census.
- Located between Indian Beach to the west and Atlantic Beach to the east on Bogue Banks; NC Highway 58 connects eastward via bridge to Morehead City and westward across Bogue Sound to Cape Carteret.
- Home to the Theodore Roosevelt State Natural Area (265 acres), donated in 1971 by Theodore Roosevelt's grandchildren, and to the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.
- As on all of Bogue Banks, ocean-facing and low-lying property generally falls under FEMA's higher-risk flood zones (A/V), making NFIP flood insurance typically a factor for mortgages — confirm the exact zone via FEMA's Flood Map Service Center.
- A paved shared-use path runs along the Bogue Banks corridor through town for biking and walking.
